Reiki Energy

Reiki is a form of alternative therapy commonly referred to as energy healing. It originated in Japan in the late 19th or early 20th century by Mikao Usui. The practice is rooted in the idea that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

The word "Reiki" is made of two Japanese words - "Rei" which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and "Ki" which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

Here are key aspects of Reiki energy healing:
  • Holistic Practice: Reiki is considered holistic because it addresses the body, mind, and spirit. It aims to improve the flow and balance of your energy to support healing and wellbeing.

  • Energy Channeling: Practitioners believe they are transferring universal energy (i.e., reiki) in the form of qi (Japanese: ki), which they channel through their hands to the patient to encourage emotional or physical healing.

  • Non-invasive and Safe: It is a non-invasive method where practitioners use their hands to deliver energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing. It's considered safe and can complement other medical treatments.

  • Self-Healing and Balance: It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki is often used to reduce stress and anxiety, promote relaxation, and support the healing process.

  • Accessibility and Training: Anyone can learn Reiki, regardless of their age or health status. Training varies, but it's generally accessible through courses that range from a day-long to several weeks, culminating in attunement by a Reiki master.

  • Not Tied to Any Religion or Belief System: While spiritual in nature, Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is based on the idea that a high level of life force energy can make us healthier and happier.

It's important to note that while many individuals report positive outcomes after receiving Reiki treatments, scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of Reiki as a treatment for medical conditions is limited. Critics argue that any benefits are mainly due to the placebo effect. However, due to its non-invasive nature and promotion of relaxation, it's often considered a safe complementary practice alongside conventional medical treatments.
